The knife blades from Black Diamond are very thin piton made of high-carbon steel. They are also known as “Black Diamond knifeblade”.
The hook is available in two sizes and is intended for use in primary rock. I.e. rock types such as granite and gneiss. What makes the Knifeblades so special are their small dimensions. This is because they are designed for extremely narrow cracks.
And secondly, the use for techno climbing. Because the Black Diamond Knifeblade only holds your body weight. The two eyelets for the climbing carabiners provide additional support with the appropriate torque.
They are not intended as an actual intermediate securing device. Consequently, this product is for specialists. They are not suitable for general climbing use.
Our conclusion. An absolute must for all climbers who do techno routes with narrow cracks!
