Description
The CT Universal Hard is a piton made of chrome steel. As the name suggests, it is a universal piton. It is ideally used in granite and gneiss.
The tapered hook has a eyelet that is at 45° to the shank. This is why it is also known as a torque hook. This is because it presses the shank against the rock under load and therefore holds particularly well.
What also sets the CT Universal Hard apart are two things. Firstly, this hook is hot-forged. That’s why it has fine shapes with nice smooth corners. And secondly, the super round hook eye is ideal for tying off slings or cordalettes.

Hot forged!
The CT Universal Hard is hot forged. This means that both the chrome steel and the press mold are extremely heated. In addition, these piton are then “baked” in an oven and then cooled rapidly.
This production process enables very fine shapes. That is why this hook has such pleasantly rounded edges. The difference to the cold-forged hooks is immediately visible and noticeable.
CT Universal Hard – many placement options
The shape of this piton allows an enormous number of placement options. This is because the hook, which tapers from sharp to thick or narrow to wide, covers many rock formations.
Narrower cracks can be secured as well as slits, scales and even holes.
The twisted eyelet additionally presses this hook into the rock when it is loaded. All this makes the CT Universal Hard an indispensable companion in alpine terrain.
