The Austrialpin D-Asymm steel carabiner is a perfect lower off carabiner. Firstly, it is made of highly abrasion-resistant AISI 316L stainless steel. Secondly, it has an approx. 12mm radius and therefore plenty of “meat” for abrasion. Thirdly, it is equipped with a splint. This means that the carabiner cannot be stolen. And secondly, it is held in the desired position. I.e. in the longitudinal direction.
In short. A solid product for equipping lower offs – climbing anchors. The manufacturer is Austrialpin.
Areas of application Austrialpin D-Asymm steel carabiner
The carabiner is popular for use in these areas:
- as lower off carabiner in climbing areas
- for abseiling points or abseiling slopes
- as lower off carabiner on climbing walls
- for mountain rescue training stands
- as an abseiling carabiner in the field of cave exploration / speleology
EN standard 12275
This standard is very important for climbing garden operators. This is because the use of suitably standardized products is one of the obligations of climbing area operators. This means that those who use these standardized steel carabiners minimize their legal risks when constructing climbing areas. This also applies to climbing area rebolting and climbing area maintenance.
Attachment Austrialpin D-Asymm steel carabiner
The steel carabiner can be easily attached to abseil anchors with a ring. In this case, the attachment is very simple. If you want to attach the carabiner to a bolt hanger or a glue in bolt you also need a quick link. This is the only way to ensure that the carabiner is perpendicular to the rock. Consequently, the rope can only run through without friction in this position.

Avoid galvanic corrosion
The Austrialpin D-Asymm steel carabiner must not be permanently attached to zinc plated bolt hanger or screw links. This leads to galvanic corrosion. The component made of the less noble metal will “rust” more and can break quickly.

When should the Austrialpin D-Asymm steel carabiner be replaced?
This product should be replaced at the latest when approx. half of the diameter has been worn away. However, we recommend that climbing garden owners do this earlier. In this way, legal risks can be minimized.
The condition of the carabiners in the climbing anchors should be checked annually. As part of the strictly recommended climbing area inspection. Bolting.eu checks the condition of the anchor points, for example, as part of the climbing area check.
