Our rappelling glue in bolt is a product with a special carabiner eyelet. Firstly, it is twisted 90 degrees. And secondly, the eyelet is oriented downwards in a triangle.
This makes this product ideal as an abseil hook. On the one hand, you can simply attach a carabiner, which is then at 90° to the rock surface. Alternatively, you can also thread the rope directly through the eyelet.
The hook is made of highly corrosion-resistant AISI 316L stainless steel. It is also made even more durable with the special “Surface” surface treatment.
Three dimensions are available:
- 8 x 80mm for perfect rock like granite
- 10 x 100mm for normal rock such as limestone
- 12 x 150mm for sandstone or splintery rock
Other areas of application
In addition, the shape of the rappelling glue in bolt makes it ideal for the following areas of application:
- End anchor for rope railings or short via ferratas (12mm)
- Flying Fox fixed points (always set up redundantly!)
- Stand renovation
- Slackline anchor
- Mountain rescue exercise stands
12mm rappelling glue in bolt – large and enormously resilient
The largest version of the rappelling glue in bolt has a very high breaking load due to its 12mm thick steel. This is 45kN. Assuming proper workmanship during installation, it is by far the strongest of all our glue in bolt.
Rappelling glue in bolt and Rapid links
Do you want to attach a screw link / quick link to the hook? Use the hook as a lower off / abseil anchor? To avoid galvanic corrosion, only use links made of A4 steel / AISI 316(L).
In our technical article “Steel qualities at expansion bolt and glue in bolt ” you can get a more in-depth insight if you like!
You also need a suitable size so that the screw link fits around the thick carabiner eyelet. For example, the 10mm Kong Quick Link.
Set rappelling glue in bolt safely!
When setting this hook, pay meticulous attention to cleaning the drill hole. Pull-out tests with sloppily cleaned holes have shown dangerously low forces. This means that the glue in bolt can simply tear out together with the adhesive from 6kN!
The adhesive should also fill the entire drilling hole and “overflow”. This is the only way to seal the drilling hole “tightly”. Furthermore, the carabiner eyelet should also be countersunk or glued into a channel.

Countersink and glue the carabiner eyelet!
When settingglue in bolt , make sure you avoid the most common mistake. Namely, not sinking or gluing the carabiner eyelet on the side of the rock. This is particularly important when working with heavy loads on sandstone glue in bolt!
