The Coeur Steel is a zinc plated bolt hanger from Petzl. It is designed for use with the Petzl Bolt Steel.
The lug is available for two expansion bolt diameters. One is 10mm and the other is 12mm.
Like all Petzl products, this one is made to a high standard. This means, firstly, a decent 4mm material thickness. Secondly, a finely polished surface, especially at eyelet. Thirdly, a fine geometry for easy clipping. And fourthly, the three anti-slip pins on the back.
As already mentioned, the Coeur Steel bolt hanger go perfectly with the Petzl Bolt Steel. Together they make a high-quality combination. This is recommended for indoor use, as it is “only” zinc plated. For outdoor use, you have to assume a much shorter service life compared to stainless steel.
More information on this can be found in the article“Steel qualities at expansion bolt“.
In short. If you’re looking for a high-quality zinc-plated bolt hanger, you’ve come to the right place!

Standards of Coeur Steel
This bolt hanger has different standards depending on the hole. On the one hand, the 10 mm version is exclusively standardized to EN 795. This means that it is approved as PPE gear.
Secondly, the 12 mm version complies with both the EN 795 and EN 959 standards. As a result, it is also approved as a lanyard for alpine use as a fixed point in addition to PPE.
Do not install with stainless steel bolts
The Petzl Coeur Steel are made of zinc plated steel. They must therefore not be installed with stainless steel expansion bolt. This causes galvanic corrosion.
Are you not familiar with this? Then read our article“Galvanic corrosion at expansion bolt“.
Ideally, you should add the Petzl Bolt Steel to this lanyard. Because these two components are perfectly matched!
bolting.eu Practice Tip
Always store your Coeur Steel lugs correctly. I.e. dry on the one hand. Moisture can attack the steel and accelerate the corrosion process in the long term.
And on the other hand, single-variety. Or to put it better. Always store your straps separately by model in their own boxes. Make sure that zinc-plated fishplates or expansion bolt and stainless steel components are strictly separated.
