The Camp Universale Soft piton is a classic “diagonal hook”. It is made of mild steel and is therefore perfect for limestone. The carabiner eye, which is rotated 45° to the shaft, enables an enormous number of placements. This is because the rotation allows belay devices to be attached even in narrow intersections.
If there is a little more space, an oval carabiner, for example, will fit through the eyelet. If the intersection is very tight, you can at least thread a sling through it.
In short. Anyone who spends a lot of time in limestone should definitely get a few of these normal hooks!

Size chart
Below you will find the size chart for the Camp Universale Soft piton. On the one hand, this should make it easier for you to choose when buying. It also shows all the dimensions, weight and other product details at a glance.
Camp Universal Soft piton = 3 lengths
You can get this normal hook from us in three lengths. Firstly 10cm (shank length 6cm). Secondly in 12.5cm (shank length 8.5cm) and thirdly 15cm (shank length 11cm). All three lengths have the same shank thickness of 6mm.
The different lengths give you a huge range of placement options!
Soft carbon steel
The Camp Universale Soft piton are made of soft carbon steel. This has the ability to bend well. This is ideal for uneven lime cracks. Very hard steels, such as hard steel hooks, would not bend so well.
The soft carbon steel, on the other hand, allows these mild steel hooks to be “wound in”.
bolting.eu Practice Tip
Try to build up your range of rock hooks sensibly and gradually.
This means that you should match the hooks to the placements or rock there, depending on your preferred mountain massif. The Camp Universale Soft piton, for example, is perfect for limestone. It won’t make sense for pure granite climbers.
We recommend a balanced set of different hook types and several lengths per model. That’s why we offer you such an enormous selection at bolting.eu. We know from our own experience that it is extremely difficult to find the perfect selection these days. That’s why we also offer hooks from Kong, Austrialpin, Stubai, etc. in addition to the manufacturer Camp.
