The Petzl Bongo rock hammer is one of THE classics among rock hammers. And for good reason. This model has been available unchanged from Petzl for more than 30 years and is still used today piton, glue in bolt and expansion bolt.
The great popularity of this climbing hammer is easily explained. On the one hand, it is the flat simplicity and, on the other, the reduction to the essential function and extreme durability.
This has been achieved with the Petzl Bongo rock hammer through a simple but robust construction. Firstly, the shaft is made of chrome steel. Secondly, it is covered with a thick rubber grip. Thirdly, the hammer head is extremely robustly fixed to the shaft. And fourthly, the mass and handle length result in a very good pull.
In short. This rock hammer is worth every euro. If you’re looking for a robust, classic model, you’ve come to the right place!

Best chrome steel
The Petzl Bongo rock hammer is an extremely robust product. This is thanks to the chrome steel and the deep anchoring of the hammer head in the handle.
The mechanical properties of chrome steel are ideal for this product. Hard yet slightly flexible. On the one hand, resistant to the many hard blows. On the other hand, it yields to pressure on the handle so as not to break. In addition, this steel quality offers very good corrosion protection. This means that this hammer does not rust quickly, even if it is stored wet.
Petzl Bongo rock hammer = perfect lever
It is not for nothing that this rock hammer has such a long handle. This, in combination with the shape of the hammer head, ensures perfect leverage.
Take a look at the tip of the hammer’s head. Can you see the small nose? This is intended for “threading” in the hook eye. So you have a small hook with which you don’t slip when “levering out”.
Really well done from the French mountain sports hardware specialist.
Attachment to the belt
Use one of the many plastic material carabiners to carry the Petzl Bongo rock hammer on your harness. The hammer has a large hole in the head for this purpose. Here you can attach it perfectly to the usually very wide snaps of the material carabiners.
We also recommend a leash. An elastic band that you can easily attach to the hole in the handle.
